Intro / exterior
Registered in October of 2001, here we have one of the very last 3.4 litre, pre-facelift 996s. This car has gone under extensive prep work with us, including the installation of our upgraded IMS bearing kit; details are below. This example is particularly eye-catching, with GT3 aero kit and Lapis Blue paint colour (colour code L3A8); a colour introduced in 2001 and therefore only found on the 3.4 litre, pre-facelift cars for one year of manufacture. The condition of the coachwork is very good, with pin straight body panels and no signs of previous repairs. The condition of the paintwork is also very good, with a deep, glossy finish and minimal blemishes. There are some stone chips to the nose, but that is all in the way of damage. While in with us the 996 also benefitted from a full body soft machine polish and hand wax to emphasise and protect lovely paintwork. The alloy wheels are the original and genuine Porsche BBS GT3 split wheels. All four are without a mark having benefitted from recent refurbishment. The tyres fitted are N rated Pirelli P Zeros, which are new on the front and have 5-6mm on the rear.
Inside the cockpit is a contrasting Graphire Grey leather interior, which suits the colour of the exterior perfectly. The interior is in great condition and could pass for a much younger car, with no damage or significant wear to note. The desirable sports hard-back seats are in brilliant order with no sagging or cracks, the dashboard carpets and door-cards are also all in very nice condition and the headlining and rear seats are as new. All the electrical functions inside the cabin work as they should do, including the air conditioning, which has benefitted from a full system rebuild including new condensers and pipe. There are two working remote key fobs present, one of which is brand new. The optional extra codes are as follows: XRL, X71, 139, 236, 340, 375, 376, 425, 436, 446, 454, 490, 567, 936, 981, 983, 09991.
Mechanically the Porsche is in wonderful order. The 3.4 litre flat six mounted to the rear starts as it should, idles smoothly and has fantastic power. As noted, we have installed the upgraded IMS bearing to the car so this cause for concern has been nullified. There are no leaks underneath, no smoke from the rear and no untoward noises; simply the glorious sound emitted through the stainless steel sports back boxes which the Porsche was fitted with in April 2017 / 2,000 miles ago. The six speed manual gearbox changes seamlessly and the clutch is brand new, having been replaced with us while the IMS bearing and rear main oil seal were being done. The brakes on the car stop the car brilliantly, with the front discs and pads also renewed in April 2017 / 2,000 miles ago. The 911's suspension and steering is beautifully tight, having had suspension work while with us such as renewals of front lower control arms and drop links. The car handles brilliantly with enormous traction and grip provided by the four wheel drive system and the P Zero tyres.
The Porsche has a full service history with 13 stamps in the maintenance booklet and a wad of paperwork evidencing other maintenance works completed, MOTs carried out and HPIs etc.
The service intervals are as follows: 24/01/2004 - 7,703 miles, 25/01/2004 - 14,242 miles, 08/11/2005 - 24,015 miles, 23/06/2007 - 37,884 miles, 05/02/2009 - 55,219 miles, 10/06/2010 - 71,123 miles, 22/03/2011 - 81,459 miles, 02/06/2014 - 89,715 miles, 25/03/2017 - 99,097 miles, 10/03/2019 - 102,068 miles, 28/05/2020 - 102,663 miles.
As noted, the Porsche has just been serviced while in with us, including oil, oil filter, spark plugs and coil packs. In addition to the service, in prep for sale we have carried out the following works: IMS bearing upgrade, renewed the clutch, renewed the rear main oil seal, replaced the ABS ring on the driveshaft, renewed an airconditioning pipe, regassed the air conditioning system, renewed the bonnet struts, renewed the anti roll bar drop links, renewed the front lower control arms and replaced the interior air vents. Other ecent works other than routine servicing detailed by the service history file include: 2x air conditioning condensers, 2x coolant radiators, column switch, front brake discs and pads, alternator, stainless steel sports back boxes.
