Intro / exterior
Presented for sale is this 996 Carrera 4S, which has been owned by a total of just three keepers, who have clearly taken brilliant care of it. With its wide-body and stunningly eye catching Lapis Blue paint colour (colour code LM5W), the Porsche is a real thing of beauty. This particular example is also a non-sun roof model, which presents a cleaner and sleeker looking roof line. The coachwork of the Porsche is in outstanding condition throughout, with no dents or untoward marks. Lapis Blue is a brilliantly vivid colour and thanks to the usual FGP day's worth of detailing the car has undergone, the paintwork has a beautiful, deep and untainted glossy shine to it. The original, genuine Porsche Turbo/4S wide bodied alloy wheels are on the car and all four are in pristine condition, having been refurbished by us in preparation for sale. Michelin Pilot Sport tyres are fitted to all four corners, with 6mm of tread to the front and 5.5mm of tread to the rear.
Inside is a Graphite Grey leather interior, which offers a complimenting contrast to the exterior body colour. The overall condition of the cabin is very good. Areas such as the headlining, dash board and carpets are in superb order, and usual wear points such as the driver's seat bolstering, steering wheel and gear stick etc show only light wear. There are the usual marks to the centre console trim, but that is about all in the way of notable signs of age. Every electrical function operates as it should, including the ice-cool air conditioning system, which we have just treated to two new condensers and a re-gas. Some stand-out optional extras selected with the Porsche include; alcantara suede headlining, 8-way electric seats, seat heating, Bose sound system, PCM satellite navigation, Litronic xenon head lights, "Tequipment" gear stick and hand brake with aluminium embodiment, and the highly sought after Porsche Switchable Exhaust (PSE). There are two remote key fobs with the car and the optional extras are as follows: XLF, X70, X97, X98, 342, 425, 440, 567, 665, 666, 668, 670, 680, 692, 09991.
This Carrera 4S is a real pleasure to drive. The flat 6 3.6 litre engine starts, idles and performs on the road perfectly, with no oil leaks present, no smoke emitted from the rear and brilliant power. We have upgraded the IMS bearing for our favoured "EPS" unit during our preparation phase, nullifying the prominent and worrying IMS bearing issue. The PSE (Porsche switchable exhaust) provides a gorgeous sound-track when switched to sports mode, but provides a modest exhaust note when turned off. We have renewed the clutch whilst carrying out the IMS bearing upgrade, so the clutch bite is perfect and the gearbox changes through the six speeds seamlessly. The large 4S/Turbo brakes are in good order and provide "on a sixpence" stopping power. There's a tremendous amount of grip provided by the 4 wheel drive system and huge traction from the 295 wide Michelin tyres on the rear. During our preparation process, we have renewed the front suspension upper mounts, bearings and bump stops, and as such, the suspension feels utterly tight with no abnormal noises made anywhere, with steering that is positive and confidence-giving to the driver behind the wheel.
