Intro / exterior
Here we have this gorgeous looking wide bodied 996 Carrera 4S, which has benefitted from a very recent engine rebuild (30/06/2019 - 89,400 miles). Finished in the timeless combination of black-on-black and specified with sought after options, this example is a highly desirable Porsche. Being a 2004 model, this particular car was one of the last 996s produced. The coachwork is beautifully straight throughout with no dings or dents to take away from the fantastic curves of the wide body. The Basalt Black (colour code LC9Z) paintwork has a deep glossy finish, having been subject to a full body soft machine polish and hand wax while in with us. We have also had the front bumper removed and resprayed to remedy stone chips that were present. The original wide body turbo alloy wheels are on the car, which we have had professionally refurbished and as such as in perfect condition. The Porsche rests on Bridgestone Potenzas with 6-7mm of tread at the front and Continental Conti Sports with 5-6mm of tread to the rear.
The black leather interior has aged very well, suffering minimal wear and definitely not looking its 16 years of age. The usual wear point in these cars is the drivers side bolster, and as can be seen in the photographs, very little wear to this area is present. Everything inside works as Porsche intended for it to, inclusive of the electric sun-roof and the air conditioning system, which blows ice cool. There is some nice optional equipment specified with this 4S, such as; 8 way electrical seats with memory positioning, Bose sound system with subwoofer, Litronic xenon headlights, alcantara suede headlining, PCM satellite navigation and Turbo tail pipe tips. There are two keys with the car, one of which is a remote key fob. The optional extra codes read as follows: C16, XKS, XNW, XPC, XPX, XSC, XJ4, X54, 265, 266, 288, 425, 440, 567, 601, 09991.
As noted earlier, the Porsche had its engine fully rebuilt in June 2019 at 89,400 miles, by Porsche specialists "Mortimers", so is fresh and rungs and performs beautifully, with smooth idle, brilliant power and a sound-track to suit. The IMS bearing was upgraded during the rebuild, so this cause for concern has been extinguished. The manual gearbox changes through all six speeds smoothly and the clutch operates just as it should, having been renewed, along with the dual mass flywheel, at the same time the engine was being rebuilt. The C4S shares it's brakes with the 996 Turbo, which are larger than the standard models, providing great stopping power. The 4S also boasts a stiffer chassis than the standard Carrera models, handling like a dream and possessing brilliant traction, thanks to the four wheel drive system. This example feels beautifully tight through the steering wheel, with no untoward noises from anywhere on the suspension, which has just had its front upper mounts, bump stops and bearings renewed by us in preparation for sale.
