Porsche 911 996 Carrera manual, registered 26/10/1998, 105,790 miles, 12 months MOT, good service history, 7 previous owners, HPI clear. 


Intro / exterior

Here we have a 996 in an increasingly sought after guise; an early generation 1, coupe with rear wheel drive and a manual gearbox. Something we like about this particular example is that it's very modest in terms of optional extras, which makes for a basic, analogue and engaging car to drive. The Porsche is without traction control, without a sun roof and comes with the cable operated throttle, which was only fitted to the earlier 996s. Also presented in the uncommon , non-metalic, gloss black; "Schwarz" (colour code L741), this Carrera is a desirable car. The bodywork is in good, presentable condition, free from any notable marks or damage. The Porsche has been subject to our customary FGP day's worth of  detailing and as such, the paintwork presents fabulously and is protected. Resting beneath the car lay its original 17" twist alloy wheels, which we have had refurbed, so are in immaculate condition, and have brand new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres fitted.



Complimenting the black exterior is a Space Grey interior, which has weathered its years well and could pass for that of a car younger than 23. The seats have light wear, with only minor signs to the drivers side bolster, the carpets are immaculate and the dashboard, door cards and headlining etc are in fantastic shape. Everything inside operates as it should including the air conditioning which we have just treated to two new condensers and a system re-gas. A double-din Pinoeer head unit is installed, with Car Play functionality etc, which works well and sits into the centre console fittingly. This 996 is a modestly specified example with the only notable optional extras being the three prong steering wheel, stainless "Carrera" kick plates and "Tequipment" exhaust tail pipe tips. The optional extra codes read as follows: C16, 436, 790.



The Porsche is in very good mechanical order, with an engine mounted to the rear that is beautifully smooth on idle, doesn't leak or smoke and makes a tremendous sound. During our preparation process, we have upgraded the IMS bearing to our favoured "EPS" cylindrical unit, so IMS woes are not a concern with this car. The clutch is light, having been renewed by us while the IMS was being attended to, which makes changing through the 6 speed manual gearbox a joy. All the brake discs and pads have plenty of life in them, providing excellent stopping power. The suspension and steering are tight, having just benefitted from new front top mounts, bearings and bump stops while with us, and as noted earlier, the basic specification of this car makes for an engaging drive.


Service history / sales prep

A good service history is present, with the exception of one gap detailed below. There is a folder of paperwork , including lots of servicing invoices, previous sales invoices, and historic MOT certificates. The original Porsche leather wallet containing the owner's manuals and service book is also present and the stamped intervals are as follows:
