Intro / exterior
Presented here is one of the finest examples of the increasingly sought after Porsche 996s available on the market. Finding an original Guards Red (colour code L84A) car with factory fitted GT3 aero kit is like finding a needle in a hay stack, and finding one in the condition that this particular one is in is an even harder task. The 911 is also a non-sun roof car, presenting a clean and un-cluttered looking roof line. The bodywork to the car is a real testament to its previous custodians; every panel is beautifully straight and the condition of the paintwork itself is nigh-on immaculate. Being incredibly critical, there are some very minor stone chips to the bonnet. During preparation, our customary FGP day's worth of detailing has been completed, which will protect the fantastic paintwork for the foreseeable. Beneath lay the original two-piece split BBS alloy wheels ("Sport Designs"), which are also in very good condition, having been recently refurbished, and also treated to new wheel bolts. The tyres are nearly new N rated Michelin Pilot Sports in all four corners.
A classic Porsche black leather interior lays inside the cabin, which is in an equally nice condition to the exterior. The leather has worn its years ever so well and could pass for a car of half its age. Areas such as the carpets, head-lining and dashboard are immaculate, and points that see most use, such as the driver's side bolstering etc have minimal wear. The steering wheel has been reupholstered in suede alcantara with red stitching and a red centre line, which looks gorgeous alongside the optional suede alcantara headlining and the Guards Red exterior. Further colour coordinated details are found inside in the form of the rare factory optional extra red seat belts, and the Guards Red coloured centre console. The 911 boasts an array of other optional extras, which includes features such as; sports hard back seats with shoulder supports, Porsche emblem crested head-rests, silver backed binnacle dials, aluminium door kick-plates, xenon Litronic head lights, Tequipment enlarged tail pipe tips, automatic dimming rear view mirror. All the electrical functions in the Porsche work as they're supposed to, including the air conditioning system, which we have just fitted a new pipe to and carried out a system re-gas. There are three keys with the car and two are functioning remote fobs. The optional extra codes read as follows: C16, XME, XSC, XSX, X54, X70, X71, 249, 265, 266, 288, 375, 376, 424, 425, 432, 436, 490, 567, 601, 689, 695, 790, 936, 981, 983, 09991.
Mechanically speaking, the Carrera 4 is in outstanding condition, having been cherished by its previous keeper and lavished to over £11,000 worth of maintenance work at a designated Porsche specialist during his 4 years of ownership. The flat six mounted over the rear axle is in perfect health, with a nice smooth idle, power in abundance, an intoxicating exhaust note, and crucially, had its IMS bearing upgraded for our favoured EPS cylindrical unit just 4,000 miles / 2 years ago. The Tiptronic gearbox was also rebuilt at this time at considerable expense, and as such, has a seamless gear change and a fresh bill of health. The brake discs and pad have covered very few miles since being renewed, and the suspension is utterly tight, having benefitted from new front top mounts, top bearings and bump stops while in with us. The handling ability of the 911 is superb, with enormous grip and traction provided by the four-wheel drive system and the nearly-new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres that are fitted
