Intro / exterior
Here we have a beautiful example of the Porsche 997 Carrera S, which has had its IMS bearing upgraded by us, nullifying this cause for concern with these cars. Being an early 997, the car is also in the lower, cheaper road tax category. The car has been meticulously cared for by its previous owner, who was its custodian for 14 years. The coachwork is wonderful with its beautiful curvature free from car park dings, scratches and general damage. The Arctic Silver (colour code L92U) paintwork is in gorgeous condition, free from any scratches or swirl marks and benefitting from our usual FGP full day's worth of detailing. The 997 sits on its original Porsche 19" "Lobster Claw" alloy wheels, which we have had refurbished (photos prior to reburb) and are therefore in immaculate condition. Pirelli Pzero tyres are fitted to all four corners, with circa 6mm of tread.
A Sea Blue coloured interior on an Arctic Silver exterior makes for a classy combination. It is very apparent from the lack of wear to the leather inside that the car has covered a low mileage. Even the areas that are most susceptible to wear, such as the drivers side bolster and steering wheel, present very nicely with little wear. Every electrical function inside the car works as it should, including the air condition system, which we have just treated to the renewal of a condenser and a system re-charge, and the electric retractable sun roof, which is an optional extra on the 997 generation of 911. The Porsche boasts some nice spec such as; front seat heating, silver coloured instrument dials, alcantara suede headlining, retractable electric sun-roof, and Bose sound system with built-in sub-woofer. There are two remote key fobs with the car. The optional extra codes read as follows: C16, 267, 268, 342, 437, 438, 446, 454, 538, 567, 610, 635, 650, 666, 670.
As stated earlier, this example was owned by its previous keeper for 14 years, and during this tenure-ship he maintained the car to the highest standard, which shows through the way it performs. The boxer engine mounted above the rear axle operates just as Porsche intended and noted above, we have upgraded the all important IMS bearing during our preparation phase, eradicating this potential problem. While carrying out the upgrade, we also renewed the three-piece clutch kit, so as a result, the clutch pedal is beautifully light, just as it should be. The rear main oil seal has also been renewed, so is bone dry underneath. The manual gearbox provides a smooth gear change, and the big "S" brakes stop the car confidently, with lots of life remaining in the discs and pads. The handling ability of the 911 is fantastic; it is a taut and lively sports car when the electronic sports suspension button is selected in Sports Chrono Plus, but a drivable and comfortable car for cruising when the sports suspension is deactivated.
