Intro / exterior
Here we have a beautiful example of the Porsche 997 Carrera S, which has the later, strengthened IMS bearing and shaft configuration, nullifying the prominent cause for concern with these cars; IMS bearing failure. This example has covered a staggeringly low amount of miles and only had one previous owner and as such is in incredible condition throughout. The body of the car is immaculate from nose to tail and the Arctic Silver (paint colour code L92U) paintwork is in fabulous condition with a deep metallic shine. There are no scratches or swirl marks present and the car has also benefitted from a full body soft compound machine polish and hand wax while in with us. Underneath lay the Porsche's original and genuine 19" Porsche "Lobster Claw" alloy wheels, which have a couple of marks but overall are in good condition. Wrapped around the alloys are Continental Sport Contact tyres with good a good amount of tread in all four corners.
The black leather interior fulfils the classic and sought after Porsche combination of Arctic silver paint with black interior. The condition of the cockpit is representative of the extremely low mileage the car has cover; with everything from the sports hard-back seats, the suede alcantara headlining, the carpets and door-cards etc all in pristine condition. In fact, the cabin of this Porsche still has the smell of new leather. This 997 was specced from the factory with a lengthy list of optional extras, which include: Sports hard-back seats with shoulder supports, heated seats, Porsche emblem crested head-rests, alcantara suede headlining, Bose sound package with subwoofer, PCM satellite navigation, stainless steel "Carrera S" door shuts, Litronic xenon head lights and most notably, sports chrono package with dash timer. There are three keys with the car, two of which are remote key fobs. The optional extra codes read as follows:
Mechanically the car is perfect; as would be expected of a Porsche with a mere 27,000 miles on the clock. The 3.8 litre engine performs just as Porsche intended, with a nice smooth idle, vast power and performance on the road, and a gorgeous soundtrack for company. The engine is bone dry underneath, does not emit any smoke from the exhausts and is free from untoward noises. As detailed earlier, the engine number confirms that the engine in this car has the later, revised IMS bearing and shaft configuration, which is much stronger and does not suffer from the failure that is possible in the earlier 997s. The tiptronic gearbox provides a smooth gear change and the big "S" brakes stop the car confidently. The handling ability of the 911 is fantastic; it is a taut and lively sports car when the sports chrono mode is selected, but a drivable and comfortable car for cruising when sports mode is deactivated.
There is a comprehensive servicing record present, including lots of invoices for works completed, evidencing how the car has only ever been maintained by Porsche main dealer or independent specialists.
The service intervals are as follows: 21/01/2008 - 9,856 miles, 26/03/2010 - 16,330 miles, 23/10/2012 - 21,989 miles, 01/04/2015 - 25,066 miles, 25/04/2020 - 27,317 miles.
In August 2018, the car was put through an inspection at "Porschetech" in Hampstead and all and any items that needed attention were addressed for the cost of £3,428.38. This included: Exhaust system service with new sleeves, clamps, vacuum hoses etc, new brake tandem pump, coil heat shields, ignition coils, spark plugs, air conditioning system service with 2x new condensers, unblock rain water drains, renew oxygen sensor.
