Intro / exterior
Here we have a gorgeous looking wide bodied 996 Carrera 4S in a very popular guise. A coupe car possessing a manual transmission, found in the "black-on-black" colour combination, with the sun-roof delete option, sports hard-back seats, and an upgraded IMS bearing; what more could one want from a 911? The coachwork is beautifully straight throughout with no dings or dents to take away from the fantastic curves of the wide body. The Basalt Black (colour code LC9Z) paintwork has an eye catching glossy finish and is without scratches or damage. There are some very minor stone chips to the nose of the car, but this is all in the way of imperfections. The Porsche has been subject to our usual FGP full day's detailing, so the car is free from any swirl marks and the paintwork is protected. The original wide body turbo alloy wheels are on the car, which are in very good condition and have Continental Conti Sport tyres fitted with good tread all round.
The black leather interior has worn its years superbly and could pass for a car of less age and miles. Even the normal wear points such as the driver's side bolstering and the steering wheel show minimal signs of wear and areas such as the headlining and carpets etc look nearly new. Everything inside works as Porsche intended for it to, including the air conditioning system, which blows ice cold. There is an array of desirable optional extras specified with the car, including; alcantara suede headlining, litronic xenon headlights, cruise control, sports hard back seats, seat heating, Porsche emblem crested head-rests, rear parking sensors, PCM satellite navigation, "Tequipment" aluminium embodied hand-brake and gearstick, "small aluminium package" (silver coloured centre console, dial surround, air vents etc), stainless steel door entry guards, Guards Red seat belts. There are two operational remote key fobs with the car. The optional extra codes read as follows: C16, 288, 375, 376, 424, 425, 539, 540, 567, 601, 689, 695, 635, 662, 663, 00501, 09991.
Mechanics / drive
This Carrera 4S has been cared for fastidiously, with maintanance work and renewal of parts carried out in all of the right areas in the last few years (largely detailed in the Service History section below). The IMS bearing has been upgraded, extinguishing the cause for worry in this area. The 3.6 litre flat six mounted to the rear performs brilliantly and sounds gorgeous, having had stainless steel sports exhaust back boxes fitted. The clutch is light with a good feel to the biting point, having been renewed at the time the IMS bearing was done, and the manual gear box shifts through the six gears smoothly. All the brake discs and pads were renewed 13,000 miles ago so stop the car powerfully. The handling of the Porsche is beautiful, with positive steering and drum-tight suspension, thanks to the renewal of suspension components 15,000 miles ago (detailed in the service history section below).
