Intro / exterior
Here lays the opportunity to acquire a desirable Porsche; an early, coupe, rear wheel driven, manual transmission, 996 with the rare 014 sports package option code (M030 sports suspension, limited differential, and sports hard-back seats). This is a beautifully straight and original 911, with no dings, scrapes or scratches, and very few stone chips to the front bumper. The Arctic Silver (paint colour code L92U) paintwork is immaculate throughout and shines wonderfully. It has benefitted from our usual FGP day's worth of detailing so the beautiful aesthetics of the car have been emphasised and protected. The alloy wheels are the original and genuine Porsche BBS "turbo twist" wheels, all four are in good, un-marked condition, and all four fitted with Continental Conti Sport tyres with over 4mm of tread.
The colour combination of the Metropol Blue leather on the silver exterior is classic to the 996 and looks brilliant. As can be seen by the pictures, the optional extra sports hard-back seats with seat heating are in good order, with no cracks, tears or sagging. Areas such as the dashboard, door cards and headlining are in fantastic condition, and the carpets are incredibly clean. Everything inside operates as it did when it left Stuttgart in 1998 including the electric retractable sun-roof and the air conditioning system, which blows ice cold. There are two keys with the car, one remote fob and one valet key. The car's optional extra codes are as follows: C16, 030, 014, 139, 220, 222, 224, 234, 340, 375, 376, 408, 446, 563, 650.
Mechanics / drive
This example of the 996 boasts a rare array of specification, which makes it a rather special drive. The 1998 and first 6 months of 1999 996s are fitted with a cable throttle, which already presents a more analogue and engaging drive, but accompanied by the limited slip differential (option codes 220, 222, 224) and the M030 sports suspension package (option code 030), this particular 911 is one for the "drivers" and "purists", who seek the feeling of being at one with the car. 15mm lowering springs have also been fitted, which adds to the taut feel of the car. The flat 6 boxer engine mounted above the rear axle performs beautifully, with a smooth idle, bundles of power and a wonderful noise. Stainless steel sports back boxes are fitted to the Porsche and only improve the flat 6 symphony. In preparation for sale we have carried out our customary IMS bearing upgrade, extinguishing this cause for concern. The clutch is exactly as it should be, having been renewed by us while we were attending to the IMS bearing upgrade. The manual gearbox shifts through its six gears seamlessly, the suspension and steering are tight and the brakes have lots of life remaining.
