This combination of spec really sets the car apart from other 996s. The aero kit presents a classic Porsche sports look, the non-sunroof makes the roofline look cleaner and less cluttered, and the Basalt Black paint has an eye catching metallic glitter to it. The condition of the bodywork is beautiful. There are no dents or dings spoiling the Porsches gorgeous lines and there are no notable scrapes or scratches anywhere. The only imperfections to be found are a small mark to the front bumper and some insignificant stone chips. While in with us, the car has benefitted from a full body machine polish and wax, emphasising the metallic shimmer in the paint. The original and genuine Porsche BBS wheels are present and are in very good condition, and all four tyres have lots of tread remaining. The brake callipers were refurbished recently so look smart through the alloy wheels.InteriorInside the car is a fantastic black leather interior with an array of optional extras. The optional extra sports hard back seats with shoulder supports have worn their years very well indeed with no significant wear that would let you know that the car was 16 years old. The driver's mat has the usual wear, but the carpets are immaculate, and the dash and door cards are also very good. This example has the optional extra of alcantara suede headlining, which is also in fabulous condition. The 996 is fitted with other desirable options such as the full trip computer with mpg calculator, range etc, and the tequipment aluminium embodied gear stick. We also like that this car is specced with out PSM (Porsche stability management) or TC (traction control), which is fairly uncommon. There are two keys with the car, both of which are working remote key fobs. The optional extra codes on this car are as follows: C16, 226, 375, 376, 425, 490, 567, 689, 699, 936, 981, 983, X76, XAG, XRL, 09991.MechanicsThe Porsche is a brilliant drive, and much like the rest of the car, does not feel it's age as it gets along the road. As mentioned, we have had the upgraded IMS bearing fitted to the engine for piece of mind. The 3.6 litre has a beautifully smooth idle and power in abundance when the right foot is applied. There are no leaks, no smoking and no noises other than the joyous exhaust note. The 6 speed manual gearbox changes up and down seamlessly and the clutch is just as it should be, having been renewed while in with us. The handling of the car feels brilliant. The steering is tight and reacts to any input instantly. This is thanks to a lot of suspension parts being replaced within recent times, which will be detailed below. The brakes are firm and stop the car sharply due to all the discs and pads being renewed at 77,465 miles.Service historyThis 996 has an outstanding documented service history. There are 11 stamps in the maintenance record and all the original Porsche owner manuals and wallets are present. There is also a large folder full of invoices for all the work carried out on the car, as well as every MOT certificate, previous sale invoices, HPI certificates etc etc.The service intervals completed are as follows: 27/08/2002 - 10,362 miles, 08/07/2003 - 19,183 miles, 09/08/2004 - 26,935 miles, 14/11/2006 - 37,830 miles, 20/01/2008 - 44,974 miles, 12/01/2009 - 57,585 miles, 03/12/2009 - 70,583 miles, 30/11/2010 - 81,339 miles, 08/12/2011 - 84,400 miles, 13/12/2013 - 88,858 miles, 28/12/2017 - 99,170 miles.Significant works carried out in the recent years include: New header tank, anti roll bar bushes, rear shock absorbers, anti roll bar links, all four control arms, all four diagonal arms, air conditioning condensers, water pump, all ignition coils, all brakes. As already mentioned, while in with us, the car has had the upgraded IMS bearing fitted, along with a new rear main seal, clutch kit and a service.
