Being one of only a few 996s registered in 1997, this car was first used as a promo car for Porsche, as is documented in it's history of paperwork. Finished in classic Porsche non-metallic black (colour code 747 "Schwartz"), the bodywork is in great order, free from any dings or scrapes to the beautifully sculpted body panel lines. The paintwork is also in nice condition with the deep black colour maintaining it's shine and vibrance wonderfully. While in with us the car has undergone a full body soft compound machine polish and wax, as well as having the front bumper removed and refurbished to eliminate any stone chips that it had been subject to. The car is fitted with a fully adjustable coil over suspension kit and the ride height has been set to approximately 30mm lower than that of a standard car which gives it a great, sporty looking stance. The original Porsche alloy wheels are fitted to the car and have just been professionally refurbished in silver while in with us, so are in immaculate condition and all four tyres have very good tread.InteriorBeing a 1997 promo car, the interior specification is also rare, with a high number of optional extras and a material found on the dashboard and door cards that is different to any we have seen on a 996 model before. This material is pleasant to look at and gives a retro-classic feel to the cabin. The general condition of the interior to the car is very good. The seats have worn well with no excessive wear or damage. The dashboard, door-cards and headlining are all in very good order. The electrical functions inside the car all work as they did when the car left the factory and as stated earlier, there is a high number of optional extras, including; 8 way fully adjustable electric seats, cruise control, onboard computer and heated seats. The optional extra codes are as follows: C16, 139, 220, 222, 224, 234, 325, 340, 408, 421, 437, 438, 454, 490, 538, 563, 635, 659, 680, 692.MechanicsThis 996 drives and performs very well indeed. The engine was replaced with a new unit from the Porsche main dealer on 12/07/2002 when the car had covered 42,738 miles for the cost of £9,774.99. This means there is just 82,000 miles on the 3.4 litre flat 6 engine, which runs beautifully smoothly on idle and revs up cleanly and crisply upon acceleration. There are no abnormal noises present; simply the lovely exhaust note produced through the stainless steel sports exhaust system. There are also no leaks underneath and no smoking from the rear. The gearbox and clutch change through the gears smoothly and the brakes stop the car well, with the front discs and pads being replaced within the last 5,000 miles and the rears replaced within the last 10,000 miles. The car's steering and handling is good, with an adjustable coil over suspension set up installed to the car, set up to be approximately 30mm lower than standard. This set up gives a slightly more sporty feel to the car's handling ability, without the dreaded speed bumps and potholes becoming a problem. This example also benefits from having the much sought after limited slip differential fitted from the factory, which also aids it's handling ability.Service historyThere is a fully documented serviced history present with the car, which includes the original fully stamped maintenance booklet, a hardback folder filled with invoices for previous works, most MOT certificates since new, previous sales invoices, and the original leather Porsche wallet with the original Porsche booklets. The service intervals completed are as follows: 01/09/2000 - 33,992 miles, 09/12/2000 - 37,081 miles, 21/01/2002 - 41,966 miles, 29/01/20033 - 43,580 miles, 21/01/2004 - 43,935 miles, 04/02/2005 - 57,414 miles, 20/02/2006 - 67,695 miles, 24/09/2007 - 75,583 miles, 02/09/2008 - 83,412 miles, 11/06/2009 - 90,334 miles, 28/04/2011 - 105,536 miles, 21/12/2012 - 115,252 miles, 29/09/2013 - 118,050 miles, 27/10/2014 - 119,113 miles, 02/10/2015 - 121,938 miles, 10/10/2016 - 123,170 miles, 06/10/2017 - 124,306 miles. Some works carried out in recent years other than routine servicing detailed in the history folder include the renewal of: stabiliser link, suspension strut brace, brake discs and pads all round, spark plugs, coil packs, all fluids, ignition starter switch, brake lines, air conditioning pipes.
