Intro / Exterior
Presented for sale, here we have a very rare sight to behold; a Guards Red Porsche 996 with a GT3 aero kit, a six speed manual transmission, genuine Porsche BBS sports classic split alloy wheels, and in the non-sun roof guise. Examples like this are scarce, and it is this particular car that is very quickly becoming a collectible and is appreciating significantly in value. The Porsche has had all of the commonly required maintenance work and upgrades carried out, including the IMS bearing, which was upgraded within the last 4,000 miles. The car was finished from the factory in the classic Porsche Guards Red colour (paint code L84A), which of course suits the 911 to a tee. The GT3 aero kit was also factory equipped, which alongside the Guards Red paintwork makes for an incredibly eye-catching sports car. The roof is found without a sun-roof, which presents a clean looking roof-line, and the enlarged, chrome "Tequipment" tail pipe tips, which were also specified from new, add further to this special 911's stand-out looks. Beneath the Porsche lay genuine Porsche BBS "Sports Classic" two-piece split alloy wheels, which we have just had refurbished, and as such, look like four pieces of fine art (photographs prior to refurbishment). A full set of match Pirelli P Zero Rossos are fitted, which have very good tread remaining.
Interior / Specification
Inside the car is a contrasting Savannah leather interior that is in wonderful condition throughout. The seats are all in lovely order, the dashboard, carpets, door cards and optional extra alcantara suede head-lining etc are also all in nice condition, and everything electrical in the Porsche works just as it should, including the air conditioning system. The steering wheel, hand brake and gear stick gaiter have just been reupholstered in their original leather and are therefore as new. Guards Red seat belts have also just been fitted to the car, which are a nice touch alongside the red exterior. There are two remote key fobs and a valet key present. The optional extra codes on this car are as follows: XAD, XRB, XSC, X71, 236, 425, 436, 567, 659, 689, 790, 939, 981, 982, 09981, 09991.
Mechanics / Drive
Mechanically speaking, the Porsche drives as well as it did when it left Stuttgart in 1999. The engine performs wonderfully, with lots of power, a smooth idle and a brilliant sound track emitted through the new stainless steel sports exhaust system that's fitted (manifolds, catalytic converters, back boxes). As noted earlier, the IMS bearing was upgraded 4,000 miles / 3 years ago, so this potentially worrisome area has been nullified. The gears change through the 6 speed manual gearbox smoothly and precisely and the clutch is lovely and light, having also been renewed, along with the flywheel, when the IMS bearing was upgraded. The brakes are in good order and stop the Porsche "on a six pence". The suspension is utterly tight, having had almost every component renewed recently, including the installation of Bilstein B16 PSS10 coil overs. This comprehensive suspension rebuild has provided the Porsche with steering that is positive and precise, instilling great confidence to the driver in the corners.
